Photography Workshop on ABC Waters Programme
Wednesday, July 01, 2009 @ 9:57 AM

The National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Council established the Young Photographers’ Network (YPN) in 2003 to harness the interest of young people in the area of photography and channel this passion toward benefiting the community at large.

Through the network, young photographers are able to contribute to society through their interests, talent, work and expertise. Since its inception, the network has created greater interest in photography by organising photography-oriented activities such as workshops, exhibitions, publications, and competitions.

The NYAA Council and the NYAA YPN, with the support of PUB, will be organising a Photography Workshop on the ABC (Active, Beautiful & Clean) Waters Programme of PUB to be held at MacRitchie Reservoir on Saturday, 11 July 2009, from 9.00am to 4.30pm.

Read more about the ABC Waters Programme of PUB

The whole day activity will include a photography workshop by Mr Willy Foo, CEO & Chief Photographer, LiveStudios. Participants will be given the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques from our guest speaker.

Following the workshop, participants will break up into small groups and will be assigned to specific waterways and reservoirs for an outdoor photography session in the afternoon where they will take photos of various waterways and of people using the facilities. Groups will then return to MacRitchie Reservoir to submit their photographs to a panel of judges.

Selected photos will be exhibited at the New Visitor Centre to be launched by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean on 25 July 2009. Young photographers whose photos have been selected will also be given attractive prizes.

The NYAA Council and the NYAA YPN would like to invite three (3) members from each photography club who are interested in enhancing their talents and skills to benefit the community. Participation is open to all NYAA Operating Authorities free-of-charge and is on a first-come-first-served basis.

Closing date for registration is Friday, 3 July 2009 at 5.00pm. Hence ALL INTERESTED MEMBERS PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR NAMES TO MISS AW OR NICHOLAS BY FRIDAY!

Winners announced

The professional finalists and amateur winners of the 2009 Sony World Photography Awards were announced on Tuesday 17 March.

The 44 photographers, from 22 separate countries, beat off stiff competition from the 186 shortlisted photographers, revealed in February. The Sony World Photography Awards aim to promote the work of photographers worldwide.

Astrid Merget, Event Director: “Photography is a powerful medium that documents current social, political, environmental and cultural affairs. It has the ability to educate, inform, motivate, entertain, change views or simply share cultural and social trends. This year’s finalists beautifully highlight the ability of the still image to do all of this and more.”
